| How do I know if I am doing the techniques
right?
It is tricky to learn how to do movement exercises from a diagram.
Try them and see if they work for you. If there is a change, then
it is working. If you are not sure and you are worried about it you
can buy the DVD. People
who have listened to a teleconference are able to effect changes.
Still they ask, “Am I doing it right?” If you are effecting
change you are definitely getting results; that means you are doing
it right. It really is that simple! If you want to be sure, buy the DVD.
How often should I do the exercises?
The answer depends on what your intention is. If you have painful breasts,
premenstrual syndrome, recurrent cysts, or some condition that has your attention,
you would want to do the massage exercises more often. Try them daily for a
week. You also might want to use a nice (medicated) oil with herbs in it. We
found a breast balm that we love. If your intention is to get to know your
breast tissue and to get energy/lymph moving, do them a couple times a week
when you are in the shower or before you go to sleep. It just takes a minute
to do the lymphatic breast
massage. Do it when you think of it. If you can manage three or
four times a week that is great. A lot of people do it regularly for a while,
and then they stop until they have symptoms and they start up again. That seems
very normal.
The breathing techniques can
be practiced any time you feel stress. (Every day?) The movement
exercises are
a tool to help you gain more awareness in your body. These are simple
but they are most effective if done with regularity. Try using them
for a minute each day for three weeks and see if you notice a difference.
Is this a good thing to do if I have
cancer?
This is not breast cancer treatment; this is about maintaining breast health.
If you have breast cancer you should see a doctor and get medical treatment.
However these exercises are great after your cancer treatment! The massage and energy
work are very helpful for reducing scar tissue formation.
Can I use this in place of a breast
self-exam?
That is a big goal of The Breast Health Project. There is a healthful difference.
Here you are really not looking for cancer. You are getting to know your breast
tissue; you are massaging it; you are getting the energy open; you are getting
the lymph moving better in order to create breast health.
Getting to know your breast tissue is the new recommendation for a breast self-exam
according to the American Cancer Society. Yes, the new line is, “Get
to know your breast tissue.” Can this help achieve that goal? Absolutely,
but this work is not always as thorough as a traditional breast self-exam.
You can spend additional time massaging and stimulating the energy points.
But the intention here is not to search every inch of tissue for cancer. Please
still do your clinical breast exam and mammograms if you are over fifty.
What if I find something suspicious?
If you find something suspicious while you are doing your breast massage there
are a few questions you want to ask.
1. Is there something similar on the opposite side? That tells you if it is
normal for you.
2. Is it painful? While most breast cancer lumps are not painful, this is not
a guarantee. If you find a painless lump, ask your healthcare provider to check
it out.
3. What is the shape of it? Is it a defined shape? Is it an abnormal shape?
Is it round? Is it hard?
If you find something that you are suspicious of and it does not
go away after a week or it is not related to your menstrual cycle,
then ask your doctor. Our goal is to educate and empower you; knowledge
is power. When in doubt, ask your doctor, ask your healthcare provider.
Use this as an opportunity to learn.
How can I learn more?
You can look through the pages on this website and go to our resource
page. We have listed a lot of resources including books that we
recommend if you want more information on the subject. We also have classes that
you can take. If you are a healthcare professional we have a special class
that enables you to teach your clients these techniques. The DVD is
a great resource because you can practice the exercises individually with the DVD.
It is a great learning tool.
Where can I find a Gua Sha?
Well once you start Gua Shaing it
is an amazing thing. You can usually buy a Gua
Sha here
on our website, although we do sell out on a regular basis. We get them from
China so it takes a little bit of time to restock. In the meantime, if you
are curious and would like to try it you can always use a round edged lid (like
from a mason jar) or a plastic cap. Even a porcelain spoon will work. You can
use anything like that. Traditionally a coin is used. Click here to see if Gua
Sha’s are
in stock.

off-line. All of our users' information, not just the sensitive information
mentioned above, is restricted in our offices. Only employees who
