Annie Appleseed
Evidence Based CAM for Cancer Conference

The Annie Appleseed conference was held in January in Palm Beach Florida.  It was a great conference!

The first thing I have to comment on was the food.  I’ve gotten to know Ann Fonfa, the founder of The Project at a variety of conferences.  I know her for her advocacy efforts, which are nothing short of amazing, but we became friends over our search for food.  You see, at most of these conferences, despite the overwhelming evidence that nutrition influences cancer development, the food is nothing less than toxic.

Ann made an amazing effort to serve nutritious food at the conference.  I cannot tell you how radical this was!  All the food was organic, a good portion was raw and it was YUMMY!  The standard has been set.  The food was worth the conference alone!

There were both advocates, survivors and clinicians at the conference which makes for interesting array of conversation.  The four standouts are listed blow.

Several of the clinicians that spoke referred to their protocols they are using.  There were two products that seem to be having great results with breast cancer.  Avemar and Dr Bejanski’s herbs.  We will have interview with both companies in the next few months.

Avemar is a wheat germ extract discovered in Hungary by a Nobel prize winning scientist.  The study that was sited several times in the conference is the one that caught our eye as well.  It was published  in 2002 in the journal Cancer Biotherapy and Radiophamaceuticals.  The efficacy of tamoxifen in estrogen receptor-positive breast cancer cells is enhanced by a medical nutriment.

Dr Bejanski’s discoveries are quite well known in the prostate cancer world.  Prostabel is a common nutritional supplement for prostate cancer issues.  The information that was new to us is how it actually works.

His theory is that the DNA become destabilized due to a number of factors, lets keep it simple with toxins and/or lack of nutrients.  He actually found herbs that could repair the DNA!  The evidence for his success is very impressive.  We look forward to interviewing the scientist from Natural Source International about the evidence regarding breast cancer issues.

Breast Cancer and Thyroid function are an issue we commonly deal with at the Breast Health Project.  We have not published on the issue yet, but Lynne Farrow gave a great presentation about the mounting evidence regarding breast cancer and iodine.  This is a controversial method, but her website is worth looking at.  If you were thinking about using the approach, please participate in their study. http://www.breastcancerchoices.org/

Dr Schachter is a medical doctor who has been using integrative approaches for 30 years.  He may be a great resource for a second opinion or as a doctor you can work with long distance.  His presentation was full of information and really showed his compassion as a clinician.  This is an important combination.

If you want more information, here is an article from him.

Also we met some a wonderful cancer advocates.  If you want someone to help you thru the process, here are a few names.
